Love is Sweet.. and Sometimes Free!

If you are in the Dupont Circle area of DC today, Tuesday August 25th, be sure to stop by Hello Cupcake. They are celebrating their 1st anniversary, and that means a free cupcake for everyone, while supplies last!

My favorite: Triple coconut, 24 carrot, and Raspberry Beret. I hear the summer special of a classic rootbeer float is yummy.. so maybe give it a try while you're out and about!

Site Visit: Josephine Butler Parks Center

One of the things I love most about DC is how you can find yourself on a busy street, filled with vendors, restaurants and other commercial stores.. and next thing you know you're in a quaint, shade tree filled neighborhood. it is exactly how my walk from the Columbia Heights Metro station led me to the Josephine Butler Parks Center.

Here's the kicker- ladies, I know how you love them- but those Chivari chairs are not always in the budget- so you may decide to pass them by. Drumroll please...

At JBPC, you don't have to make sacrifices! They have a multitude of cocktail rounds, round guest tables, and chivari chairs for you to choose from. Of course, you are always welcome to rent additional items- but this is a great starting point!

A walk up the red velvet stairs takes you to the second floor, to the main dining room. The foyer is a perfect space for a dance floor, (my client in the fall is putting the DJ atop the landing on the staircase!) There are two beautiful fireplaces and mantles in the main dining room. I love the details and molding- the entire mansion is full of charm and beauty.

It's conveniently located adjacent to Meridian Park. Guests will not only enjoy the spectacular views from the second floor veranda- but you can get some great photos in the park!

Fresh from the Ribbon Box!

Two of my friends were recently married in July. I'm always a fan of purchasing a gift off a registry- but this time I wanted to do a little bit more. I was inspired by their wedding website, which sported a pedestrian/sign like graphic of a proposal:

In the spirit, I came up with a fun and adjusted the colors to be a bit warmer- referencing "Night" and "Bluebell" from Paper Source. Here's what we came up with:

My favorite is the little bling coming from her finger!

From there I created a set of stationery to give them to start their new lives (and correspondence!) together.

The suite consists of:

Two versions of the graphic- one with their new last name, and one with both first names and their new shared last name.

20 Bluebell A6 envelopes
20 Night A6 envelopes

40 flat A6 cards- a mixture of luxe cream cards on night backing; luxe cream cards on blue bell backing, bluebell cards on night backing.

The set is completed by personalized address labels displaying the same graphic, as well as envelope seal stickers!

All in a beautiful, ribbon-wrapped box, and the set is complete!

Site Visit: Hotel Monaco

Yesterday I had the pleasure of visiting Hotel Monaco in Old Town Alexandria. I always love exploring different venues- and this was a real gem. Although I have dined at Jackson 20, their restaurant and in house caterer, I have never really explored the boutique hotel. The catering manager Joi Funches is a delight- very kind and excited to show off this Kimpton Hotel.

The lobby is gorgeous. Deep teal walls- vibrant, warm and welcoming colors. From the moment you enter off King Street, you feel as if you've found a gem!

What I love most about Boutique Hotels is their attention to detail, flair of individuality. Upon check in, guests are offered a goldfish for their room, to make them feel a bit more at home. Housekeeping will take care of feeding and caring for the fish while you are out and about exploring!

Jackson 20, attached restaurant and in house caterers. Beautifully decorated- and the food is fantastic! They specialize in Americana- and southern comfort food. They do offer lighter fares, and menus vary seasonally.

We also popped into a guest room so you can get a feel for the atmosphere:

Next, we stopped by the outdoor garden courtyard/patio. Here's a glimpse of the standard chairs- very comfortable, and neutral for events. Love the detail of the brickwork!

This corridor connects to the patio. Perfect for processional, and especially recessional- the bridal party has plenty of time to either escape to the holding room- or head directly into Old Town for some post-ceremony photos!

The parlor in the Bombay Room. I love the details of the lattice work dividing the space. The Bombay room is just off the outdoor courtyard patio- and is the perfect size for a cocktail hour. The chocolate brown linens are their standards for events- and they have a plethora of runners that they will match to coordinate your colors and style preferences. I love that the standard for cocktail rounds and serving tables is not white! Something different, it goes well with the room- and it's included in your contract!

Standard chair, tuxedo linen for guest tables.

They offer both high and low cocktail rounds.

Leaving the Bombay Room, the great hallway towards the Paris Ballroom.

Did I mention that as soon as you step out the door, you are in the mix of all things Old Town! Just half a block from City Hall- with historic architecture and a beautiful fountain, perfect for photos, and two blocks from the Alexandria waterfront- Torpedo Factory, the pier, so many great photo ops! Hotel Monaco is centrally located making it a perfect place for one or all of your wedding events. Even if you are not having an event there- consider blocking rooms there- your guests will love it, and so will you!

I forgot to mention, as soon as you step outside from the Hotel, there is a Trolley Stop- free trolley that runs from King Street Metro, all the way down King Street to the waterfront ( and back!)
